The Role of the Needle in Industrial Sewing.

The function of a needle is...

  • To create a passage through the material for the thread to pass through.
  • To carry the needle thread through the material to create and form a loop which can be picked up by the hook or the looper.

Needles play an important part in determining both appearance and performance of the finished seams.

The choice of a needle is always guided by the material type, the number of layers and the appearance required.

Too small a needle may lead to thread breakage.

Too large a needle can result in missed stitches and poor tension.
